The story of St. Carlo Acutis
Carlo Acutis was born in 1991 in London, England, and grew up in Milan, Italy. He was a regular kid. He wore jeans and sneakers, played with his dogs and cats, laughed with his friends and loved computers.
But Carlo had a best friend he loved more than anyone: Jesus. After his First Communion, Carlo went to Mass every day he could and spent time praying in front of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He called the Eucharist "my highway to heaven." He liked to say that if you sit in the sun, you get a tan, and if you sit in front of Jesus in the Eucharist, you become a saint! He prayed the Rosary every day too.
Carlo was very good with computers. He taught himself how to make websites, and he used his skills for Jesus. He built a website and an exhibition about Eucharistic miracles, so that people everywhere could learn how much Jesus loves us in Holy Communion.
Carlo also cared about people who were poor or lonely. He used his allowance to buy food for homeless people in his neighborhood and helped younger kids with their homework.
He loved the town of Assisi, where St. Francis lived, and his family often spent holidays there.
When Carlo was fifteen, he became very sick with leukemia. He offered his suffering to Jesus for the pope and the Church. He died on October 12, 2006. Carlo said, "Everyone is born as an original, but many people end up dying as photocopies." He wanted to be the one-of-a-kind person God made him to be.
St. Carlo Acutis was declared a saint on September 7, 2025. Many people ask his prayers for the internet and for young people. We celebrate him on October 12.
What to color
- His polo shirt: red is the favorite, but any bright color works.
- His jeans and sneakers: blue jeans and white sneakers, just like a kid today.
- The laptop: gray or silver. Draw a little cross on the screen!
- The monstrance: gold, with a white Host and bright yellow rays. This is Jesus in the Eucharist, Carlo's "highway to heaven."
- The rosary: any color. Carlo prayed it every day.
- Assisi: green hills, olive trees and a cream-colored stone church.
A prayer to pray together
Carlo loved to visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. When you pass a church or kneel before the tabernacle, pray:
Jesus, I love you and I want to be close to you. St. Carlo, pray for us.
