All Saints Day 2027

All Saints Day 2027 falls on Monday, November 1, 2027. The Church celebrates it as a solemnity everywhere, but in the United States it is not a holy day of obligation this year, because the US bishops lift the obligation when November 1 falls on a Saturday or a Monday. All Souls Day follows on Tuesday, November 2.
All Saints Day 2027 falls on Monday, November 1, 2027. On that day the Church honors all the saints in heaven, the great crowd no one can number, the famous and the unknown alike. This page covers the 2027 dates and the obligation question; for the meaning of the day, its history from the Pantheon to Pope Gregory IV, Halloween and the customs, see our main All Saints Day page.

Is All Saints Day 2027 a holy day of obligation?
Not in the United States. The universal law of the Church lists All Saints among the holy days (canon 1246), but it allows a bishops' conference to adapt the list. The US bishops' complementary norm, approved by the Holy See in 1992, lifts the obligation for January 1, August 15 and November 1 whenever one of them falls on a Saturday or a Monday. In 2027 November 1 is a Monday, and the USCCB calendar says so directly: "because it is a Monday, this year the obligation to attend Mass on this date is abrogated."
The feast itself is not canceled. All Saints is still a solemnity on Monday, November 1, with its own Mass, and almost every parish will offer it, often in the morning and the evening. Let us go if we can. There is no better way to honor the saints than to join them at the altar, where heaven and earth meet.
Other countries handle it differently. In England and Wales, a holy day that falls on a Saturday or Monday moves to the nearest Sunday, so All Saints is celebrated on Sunday, October 31, 2027. In Canada and many European countries, check with your diocese. Our holy days of obligation 2027 page lists the whole year.

How 2027 differs from 2026
In 2026 All Saints fell on a Sunday, and the solemnity took the place of the Sunday Mass, so one Mass covered both. In 2027 it falls on a Monday after a normal Sunday, the Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time on October 31. In 2028 November 1 is a Wednesday, and the obligation returns. If you keep a family calendar, mark it now.
The readings for All Saints Day 2027
The first reading is St. John's vision of the saints in glory: a multitude "which no man could number, of all nations, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues," standing before the throne in white robes, with palms in their hands. The second reminds us that we are already children of God, and "we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is." The Gospel is the Beatitudes, the portrait of every saint and the road for us.

Keeping All Saints Day on a Monday
A weekday All Saints asks a little more planning, and gives a little more freedom. Families can go to an early or evening Mass, then end the day with a saints' supper, each person telling the story of their patron saint. Many parishes and schools hold an All Saints party on the Sunday before, with children in costumes of their patrons, a good answer to Halloween on October 31. For ideas, from soul cakes to costume games, see All Saints Day, and to find a patron for each child, browse the Saints A to Z or famous saints.
Let us also pray the Litany of the Saints together that evening, asking the whole Church in heaven to pray for the whole Church on earth.

The days that follow
All Saints opens a week the Church gives to the dead. On Tuesday, November 2, comes All Souls Day 2027, and from November 1 to 8 the faithful may gain a plenary indulgence for the souls in purgatory by visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead. The November saints follow: St. Charles Borromeo on Thursday, November 4, St. Martin of Tours on Thursday, November 11, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini on Saturday, November 13, St. Elizabeth of Hungary on Wednesday, November 17, and St. Rose Philippine Duchesne on Thursday, November 18. St. Cecilia comes on Monday, November 22, and the Mexican Jesuit martyr Blessed Miguel Pro on Tuesday, November 23. Christ the King 2027 closes the liturgical year on November 21.
For the whole year, see the Catholic calendar 2027.
All holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
